Note Dash Privacy & Cookie Policy

Last updated: October 2026

This Notice applies to the Note Dash browser-based application (the “App”). It describes what information we collect, how we use and share it, and the choices available to users.

The App is operated by Top Clef Publishing (“Top Clef,” “we,” “us,” or “our”).

1. Scope and who the App is for

The App is offered for use only in the United States, and we do not target or market the App to individuals located outside the United States. If you access the App from outside the United States (including while traveling), you do so at your own initiative and risk, and you are responsible for compliance with applicable laws. Information collected through the App may be processed and stored in the United States, where privacy laws may be different from those in your location.

The “Public Web App” is the publicly available browser-based version of Note Dash. “School Access” is Note Dash accessed through a dedicated School Access link provided to a licensed school or organization.

The Public Web App is not directed to children under 13 and is not intended for use by children under 13. School Access may be used by students under 13 as permitted by applicable law and the Note Dash School Access Terms.

2. What we collect

Note Dash does not require an account, name, or email address to play. Optional leaderboard information and School Access purchaser information are described below.

When you use the App, we collect information in the following categories, which may include the examples listed:

A. Browser and session identifiers

  • A persistent identifier associated with your browser (for example, a cookie-based identifier).
  • A session identifier.

We use these identifiers to maintain App functions, support scores and game activity, monitor usage, enforce access restrictions, and protect against misuse.

B. Device and network information

  • Device and browser information (for example, browser type, operating system, or similar technical metadata).
  • Network information (for example, an IP address or a hashed form of an IP address).

We collect IP addresses and related network information. We generally store IP addresses in hashed form and may associate these hashed identifiers with browser or visitor identifiers and individual gameplay records. We use this information for security, abuse prevention, usage monitoring, analysis of App usage, and enforcement of usage limits and School Access restrictions. In limited cases, such as certain administrative authentication failures, operational logs may include a raw IP address.

C. App usage and gameplay data

  • App interactions and gameplay events (for example, number of games played).
  • Performance information (for example, score or accuracy).
  • Timestamps and basic session timing.
  • Share engagement data (for example, whether the share prompt was displayed, whether the share button was tapped, and the outcome such as shared via device, copied to clipboard, dismissed, or failed). We do not collect recipient identities, contact lists, or the contents of messages you send using third-party apps.
  • Leaderboard submissions, if you choose to submit a score: for public gameplay, up to three alphanumeric characters, an optional U.S. state or territory, and associated score, date, or ranking information may appear on the public leaderboard. For School Access, submissions are limited to three characters, have no location field, and appear only on the applicable school leaderboard.

Individual gameplay and performance records may be associated with browser or visitor identifiers and hashed network identifiers so that we can monitor usage, maintain gameplay functions, analyze patterns and trends, and improve Note Dash.

D. School Access purchaser and subscription information

  • School or organization name and purchaser contact details.
  • Subscription status and billing or transaction records.

We use this information to administer School Access purchases and subscriptions. Payment card details are handled by the payment provider; we may receive limited payment or transaction information.

3. Cookies and similar technologies

A. Persistent identifier cookie
When you use the App, we place a persistent cookie on your browser that helps us recognize your browser over time. We use this cookie to keep the App running reliably, support abuse prevention and rate limiting, and help enforce fair-use limits.

This cookie typically lasts up to about one year unless you delete it earlier through your browser settings. The cookie is set with standard security settings designed to reduce unauthorized access.

Deleting a browser cookie does not necessarily delete gameplay records that were previously saved on our servers. Please see Sections 6 and 7 for retention and privacy requests.

B. Browser storage
We may store basic preferences in your browser (for example, whether sound is muted) to improve your experience.

C. Your choices
You can control cookies through your browser settings and can delete cookies at any time. If you disable cookies, some App features may not work as intended.

D. Browser Do Not Track signals
The Public Web App does not currently respond to browser Do Not Track signals. Third-party analytics and advertising providers may collect information about activity over time and across websites as described in Section 5.

4. How we use the information

We use the information described above to:

  • Operate and maintain the App.
  • Help keep the App available, secure, and fair for all users.
  • Prevent fraud, abuse, and excessive automated use.
  • Diagnose bugs and improve performance.
  • Analyze usage, gameplay performance, patterns, and trends to diagnose issues, improve educational features, and develop Note Dash.
  • Display optional leaderboard submissions according to the applicable public or school-only leaderboard settings and facilitate optional sharing features.
  • Generate internal reporting and analytics for operations, security, and product improvement.
  • For School Access, we may provide authorized school personnel with reporting or insights regarding usage and gameplay performance. Reporting features, metrics, and availability may change over time.

5. How we share the information

We do not sell personal information for monetary payment. Third-party analytics and advertising practices for the Public Web App are described below. We may share information with service providers that help us operate the App (for example, hosting, security, and analytics support) under contractual confidentiality and security obligations.

Public Web App analytics and advertising: We may use third-party analytics and advertising measurement technologies to understand usage, measure performance, and support advertising activities. These technologies may collect browser, device, and interaction information and may collect information about activity across websites, subject to applicable law.

School Access purchases and subscriptions are processed by third-party payment providers. These providers may collect payment, billing, transaction, and related technical information from authorized school representatives. Payment processing information is handled separately from student gameplay information.

We may also disclose information if required to comply with law or to protect the rights, safety, and security of Top Clef, our users, or others.

6. Retention

We retain information only for as long as reasonably necessary to operate and secure Note Dash, maintain gameplay and scores, monitor usage and authorized access, prevent misuse, analyze trends, improve the App, and meet legal obligations. For School Access, identifiable browser and network identifiers (including hashed identifiers) and associated gameplay records are retained for no more than three years from collection, and deleted or appropriately de-identified sooner if no longer reasonably necessary for these purposes. We may retain appropriately de-identified or aggregated gameplay and usage information longer for historical comparisons and product improvement. Payment and business records may be retained separately as necessary for accounting, tax, and legal obligations.

7. Your rights and choices

Depending on your location, you may have rights to request access to or deletion of certain information.

Because the App does not use accounts, requests are typically handled using information associated with your device or browser (for example, a cookie-based identifier). If you clear cookies, use private browsing, or change devices, we may not be able to reliably locate or link your information.

To submit a request, contact: [email protected]

For School Access, schools and other authorized individuals may submit applicable information review or deletion requests to the contact above. Because Note Dash does not maintain student accounts or associate gameplay records with student names, identifying particular records may require a browser or visitor identifier or other information sufficient to locate them. We will honor verified requests as required by applicable law.

8. California privacy rights

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (“CCPA”) and related laws may provide you with certain rights, subject to exceptions. In general, these rights may include the right to request:

  • Access to the categories and specific pieces of personal information we collected about you.
  • Deletion of personal information we collected from you.
  • Correction of inaccurate personal information (where applicable).

We do not sell personal information for monetary payment. Advertising-related technologies used on the Public Web App may involve disclosures that qualify as “sharing” for cross-context behavioral advertising under applicable California law. School Access gameplay information is not used for such advertising. Contact us about applicable rights and choices.

To exercise California privacy rights, contact [email protected]. We may need to verify your request using information associated with your device or browser.

9. Children’s privacy

The Public Web App is not directed to children under 13 and is not intended for use by children under 13. We do not use School Access gameplay information for behavioral advertising or advertising audience profiling.

Parents and authorized school representatives may contact [email protected] with privacy questions or applicable requests to review or delete information. Because Note Dash does not require user accounts, locating activity associated with a particular student may require relevant browser or visitor identifiers.

10. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect information we maintain. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

11. Changes to this Notice

We may update this Notice from time to time. The “Last updated” date above will reflect changes. Your continued use of the App after changes become effective constitutes acknowledgment of the updated Notice, except where applicable law requires additional notice or consent.

12. Contact

If you have any questions or legal inquiries, please contact us at [email protected].
